New Spring Trend: Shirt Dress

Hey Everyone!

Today's blog post is on the new spring trend: shirt dress. Personally I really like the idea of a shirt dress, because it's really comfortable but can be super fashionable with the right styling. And that's what today's post is going to show you; 5 tips for styling a shirt dress!

1. Loose Fit: a loose fit is not only more flattering but more comfortable as well. Loose fit does not mean baggy or oversized, but rather a relaxed cut with room for movement.

2. Hem Length and Heel Height: a general rule to use when accessorizing your shirt dress is that the shorter the dress, the lower the heel.

3. Cinch the Waist: a shirt dress can be shape less, so add some shape by adding a belt around the waist.

4: Try a Print: if you want to mix it up, and have a little extra something in your outfit, try picking a shirt dress with a print.

5: Accessorize: a shirt dress can be simple and basic, add some flare with chic and on-trend accessories, try a watch or simply tie a plaid shirt around your waist!

Spring Dresses

Hello!

Happy Friday! Hope everyone had a great week and is going to have an even better weekend! Today's post is about spring's most flattering dresses for every shape. Whether you're athletic (like me), lean, curvy, petite, boyish or busty there is a perfect spring dress for you, just keep reading!!

1. Athletic: stick to dresses with minimalistic and architectural structures, but don't be afraid to risks here and there, try cutouts like below.

2. Lean: try classy pieces, that are fitted, which is fashion-forward, flattering, and appropriate for both a day and night. Don’t be afraid of prints, which add a bit of depth to your slender frame and won't overpower you.

3. Curvy: For a curvier figure, try dresses that stick to one or two colours. The shape should be one that cinches in at the waist, and in a style that hits right below the knee

4. Petite:  If you have a petite shape, try wearing girly, flowery looks and layers, mixed textures, or bright colours.

5. Boyish: Try new things and don’t be afraid to change it up, your narrow frame gives you a lot of freedom when it comes to silhouettes.

6: Busty: when choosing dresses for spring, focusing on modest v-necks that show just enough skin, narrowed waists, and flared hemlines.

How to: Wear a Romper

Welcome back fashionistas!

Today's post is inspired by a purchases I made last week: a romper. It made me wonder how I can wear it with out looking too casual or childish. So I did some research and found a few helpful ideas that can make wearing one a cinch!

If you are not sure what exactly a romper is... it's basically a one piece with shorts.

Since a romper isn't the easiest piece of clothing to pull off, these six rules will help you to wear one and look fabulous!

1. Make sure it's not too tight. Rompers aren't supposed to look like second skin, also you want to avoid a camel-toe...

2. Watch the length. Your butt cheeks shouldn't be peeking out; the bottom of the romper should reach the ends of your fingertips, or at least cover your entire bottom.

3. Choose a solid-colored romper. Though floral patterns are fun and cute. solid colors tend to look classier, or try a denim pattern like the one below

4. Break up the outfit with a belt. Doing this keeps the romper from looking like an adult onesie.

5. Layer up. Rompers are easy- breezy, but adding a cute jean or military-style jacket over one makes the whole look feel more put-together.

6. Wear a wedge with it. Rompers are casual as it is, so don't just throw on flip-flops. A little effort can go a long way.

As you can see, there are many ways to make a romper look sophisticated and classy! Use these six rules and you will look perfect all summer long in your one piece!

How to: Perfect Beach Waves

Hello fashionistas!

As summer approaches it is important to know how to create the seasons hottest hair trend: beach waves. It can be difficult, but this guide will help you get the perfect hair for summer, whether you have straight, wavy, or curly hair, and if you are actually going to the beach or not!

Bumble and bumble. Surf Spray, $25
Straight: Wash hair and let air dry, then apply a texturizing spray. With a medium sized curling iron, take 2-inch sections of hair and wrap it around the barrel. You don't want your hair to look too perfect so take messy sections. After the curls cool, finger comb and spritz in more texturizing spray if needed.

A good product to try for texturizing spray is Bumble and bumble surf spray, $25 sephora.com

Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls, $22, missjessies.com

Wavy: Start with day-old locks for a little extra texture. If you want to get tousled waves fresh out of the shower, apply a curl cream, put your hair in a loose bun, let it dry, then touch up any flat sections with a large barrel curling iron. Flip your head upside down, spray all over with a texturizing spray, and lightly scrunch the curls with your hands!

Curly: Blow out your hair with a round brush to straighten your hair out a bit before creating the waves. Apply an anti-frizz serum before you grab your blow dryer, so summer humidity won’t ruin your look. Then, use a medium-sized curling iron to create loose waves and add a surf spray for texture.
Try Frizz-Ease Hair Serum Extra-Strength Forula, $9, drugstore.com

Marc Anthony Beach Waves spray, $10,
amazon.com
There you have it! How to get the perfect beach waves no matter what type of hair you have. Click here for the full article from Seventeen Magazine.

Personally, after I wash my hair I scrunch it with Marc Anthony Beach Waves spray, then, when my hair is still slightly damp, I tie it in a loose bun. Once I take it out...BAM... perfect beach waves!
I recommend that if you aren't happy with your beach waves, watch a couple of youtube videos, they are always super helpful!

Thanks for reading today's post and I hope it was helpful!
Have a great day, and see you next time!

Must-Have Monday

Happy Monday Everyone!

So I was thinking about what today's post should be about, how can I possibly top "Sunny Sunday"? Well I thought why not start "Must-Have Monday"?

Today's post will show you this weeks "must-have", and I assure you, once you read this blog you'll be running to the store... if you don't already have todays must-have.

Hint from Twitter
If any of you looked at twitter (@thestylewatch1), you would have seen the hint for today's post... ------------->

So what do you think?

Well yesterday's blog was about sunglasses, so its not those..
Next thing that jumps out is probably the adorable summer sandals... but its not those either

With that being said, today's "must-have" is boyfriend jeans!!

All of you have probably seen this trend popping up everywhere, and with the right accessories and famine touches, you too can rock this must-have trend!

My Boyfriend Jeans, 49.95,
garageclothing.com
Personally, I never thought I could wear boyfriend jeans without looking like a boyfriend myself... but one day I went shopping and my mom practically forced the jeans on me... but I looked in the mirror and WOW! They actually looked good! Of course I had to buy them. Now whenever I go out they are my go-to. The best part is they look good with practically anything!

Some of you reading this are probably thinking, like myself, that you could never wear this trend and look good, well I have some tips for you non-believers!

I wanted this post to not only show you how great boyfriend jeans look on models and celebrities, but how you can look just as great, if not better! I did some research and found two articles on how to wear boyfriend jeans.

Article number one, is from Women's Health Magazine, titled "How to Wear Boyfriend Jeans". This article shows two simple steps to make boyfriend jeans work:

  1. Add feminine touches: you want some items that are the opposite of your boyfriend jeans, think structured, lady-like, even fancy. You want to add the perfect amount of feminine to the masculine trend
  2. Show off your shape: if you got it, flaunt it ladies! This being said, you don't need to wear a skin-tight, low-cut blouse, instead try something fitted, meaning narrow with a feminine cut.
Using these two tips, you can balance the boyfriend jeans, whether its for Saturday night out, or Sunday morning brunch... you'll be sure to rock this must-have trend!

Article number two is taken from Glamour Magazine, and it highlights a few additional things you can do with these boyfriend jeans to take them to the next level.

Model Bar Refaeli
Miranda Kerr
To the left we have model Bar Refaeli rocking a pair of ripped boyfriend jeans, paired with a loose fit tee and feminine leather jacket, looking chic and stylish for a night out on the town.

To the right we have Miranda Kerr, pairing the boyfriend jeans with a sleek blazer and pointed heels... showing us the grown-up way to wear the trend, maybe even for a casual Friday?

As you can see these two celebs made these jeans work with a loose fit tee paired with a fitted jacket to help show their shape, and the perfect accessories. These women show you can take boyfriend jeans from fun and flirty, to structured and sophisticated.

Kendall Jenner

The last look that caught my eye from this article is Kendall's simple yet stylish take. Too hot outside to wear a jacket or blazer? Just throw on a plain white tee, half the effort but still fashionable!

I highly recommend that if you can only buy one thing for this spring you get a pair of boyfriend jeans!

Not only are the the latest spring trend, but they are also incredibly comfortable and can be paired with partially anything!

So before you go enjoy another beautiful day... stop at Garage, or Urban Outfitters and get yourself a pair! Trust me... you will be glad you did!

Well that's it for this Must-Have Monday! Hope to see you back here tomorrow!
